THINK JACOBSON & ROTH TEACH REGIONAL MUSEUM WORKSHOPS FOR CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF MUSEUMS
March 1, 2001
Lori Jacobson and Carla Roth, with Carol Fulton, present Exhibit Development from A to Z for museum professionals in San Diego, Ontario, Newbury Park, and Oakland, California
"Based on last year's success, CAM is pleased to continue its annual series of regional workshops with the assistance of the The Getty Grant Program. The series is presented in response to the many requests from CAM members for affordable regionally accessible programs. This year's focus, in-house exhibition design, was the second most highly requested topic in CAM's recent statewide assessment of museum needs. With the assistance of the Getty Grant Program, we are pleased to offer numerous scholarship opportunities as well. Please join us for this informative series of programs." -- Teri Knoll, CAM Executive Direction
Exhibit Development from A to Z: Creating Engaging Results presented an overview of what constitutes a comprehensive approach to museum exhibition planning, from team composition and formation to seeking innovative and affordable solutions for exhibit design and installation including:
- Knowing your audience and determining your "story"
- Hands-on activities to guide participants in getting started on their exhibit project
- Suggested techniques for graphics production from in-house to outside production
- Affordable display systems and other exhibit elements
- Ways to maximize the impact of your exhibit dollars through effective use of color,
graphics and 3-dimensional environments
- Ensuring ADA considerations are provided for in your design
- Inexpensive ways to incorporate sound and/or moving images
From January through March 2001, these full-day workshops were presented to over 160 museum professionals and volunteers in four different locations.
