THINK JACOBSON & ROTH ORGANIZES GREEN MUSEUM WORKSHOP FOR WESTERN MUSEUMS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
September 28, 2005
THINK Director Lori Jacobson organizes and facilitates "Being Green" workshop for museum professionals attending the WMA annual meeting September 28-October 1, 2005
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA - For 70 years, the Western Museums Association has helped create and sustain strong institutions by providing professional development opportunities and forums for creative interaction and new ideas. The 2005 WMA meeting, focused on the theme A Rose by Any Other Name: Authenticity, includes a pre-conference workshop facilitated by Lori Jacobson of THINK Jacobson & Roth Being Green: Lessons in Sustainable Design and Operations
Museums must be both good cultural and environmental stewards. Diverse staff of small to large museums are called upon to design exhibits and building operations plans incorporating green materials and systems. This workshop, at the new Audubon Center at Debs Park, a LEED Platinum-rated building on 282-acres and the first building in L.A to be entirely powered "off the grid," focuses on practical information for exhibit designers/developers, educators, fundraisers, administrators and facilities managers. Content includes: - the materials, resources, and "how to" implement green design and operations
- how to ensure institution-wide thinking
- teaching tools: educating yourself and your public
This full day workshop features contributions by a number of designers, museum planners, and educators who are leaders in the field of green and sustainable design and operations.
"The use of recycled and sustainable materials in museum exhibits is increasing desired and expected by environmentally-aware museum staff and board members, along with their visiting public. Short of undertaking an entirely new building plan, there are many steps museums and cultural institutions can take to incorporate green and energy-efficient operations. This workshop is designed for those interested in learning about and beginning to incorporate these practices into their museum exhibits and planning. " says workshop facilitator Lori Jacobson.
